Housing Stats for April 2012

The Oahu housing statistics have been released by the Honolulu Board of REALTORS for the month of April 2012.  For Single Family Homes, 217 homes were sold (a difference of -5.2% from a year ago) with a Median Sales Price of $600,000 (a difference of +2.6% from a year ago).  For Condominiums, 343 units were sold (a difference of -9.5% from a year ago) with a Median Sales Price of $319,000 (a difference of +4.6% from a year ago).

Housing inventory has started to decrease though, and if it continues for the next few months could lead to another change to the housing market.  With limited inventory and an increase in demand during the anticipated summer months, home prices may continue increase.  Historically low mortgage interest rates will continue to aid home buyers.

I am seeing an increase in activity in certain neighborhoods.  Homes are receiving multiple offers early on.  Be persistent in your search for a home, in time, you will be rewarded.

The market has changed from just a few years ago, and will continue to change.  This is the new normal.   The best time to buy or sell a home is a personal decision.  Only you will know when it’s your time.

Earth Day – 2012

What will you do to celebrate Earth Day 2012?  Today, there are so many things we can do to conserve and appreciate the Earth’s precious environment.  In 2009, the United Nations designated April 22 as the International Mother Earth Day.

Philips has unveiled a new super energy efficient LED light bulb today.  I have an older version and am very happy with it.  The price is a little steep, but the bulb is reported to last up to 10 years or more and will save consumers money because we won’t need to replace bulbs as often.  The color is good too.

With photo-voltaic systems gaining ground, solar water heaters, and LED light bulbs.  You can start to do your part and preserve the Earth’s environment for future generations.

I Love Kailua – 2012

The “I Love Kailua” Annual Town party is scheduled for Sunday April 22, 2012 from 11 am to 4 pm on Kailua Road.  This event is sponsored by the Lani-Kailua Outdoor Circle and is Kailua town’s biggest party of the year.  Thousands attend to sample food from Kailua’s best restaurants, enjoy live entertainment, find the best crafts and original art, and see their friends and neighbors.  Have a great time!

Congratulations on the Grand Opening of Whole Foods Market – Kailua

It’s so exciting to see the excitement at the Grand Opening of the Whole Foods Market in Kailua!  I’ve visited the store twice today.  Once in the morning, just after the store opened.  I didn’t stay because I couldn’t find any parking.  The parking lot in front of Whole Foods was full, the area in front of Longs Drugs was full, and the parking area in front of Macy’s was also full.  There was 1 open stall near Starbucks so I stopped and got my daily coffee.

I came back in the early evening with my family and found a parking stall at the rear of the parking lot.  We finally entered the store and felt the positive energy and vibe of the new store.  You’re first greeted with the fresh fruits and vegetables section, each labled with where they came from.  As you walk through the section, you see a “poke” bar.  We were given a sample which tasted great!  Next you’ll see the raw poultry, pork, and beef.  As you continue through, you’ll see bakery items.  We bought 2 cupcakes and 1 coconut cream pie.  They tasted so good!  There’s also the food bars where you can build your own meal.

As you walk through the store, you see many organic-type products.  I can’t wait to try them, it’s great to see a new mix of products coming into the Kailua neighborhood.  There’s so many things to see in this new store.  The Whole Foods Market seems to be a good fit for Kailua.

Whole Foods Market – Kailua

A new page will turn on Wednesday as the new Whole Foods Market is scheduled to open in Kailua.  I highly appreciate their core values which include:

  • Selling the highest quality natural and organic products available
  • Satisfying and delighting their customers
  • Supporting team member happiness and excellence
  • Creating wealth through profits & growth
  • Caring about their communities & their environment
  • Creating ongoing win-win partnerships with their suppliers
  • Promoting the health of their stakeholders through healthy eating education

These values are a good fit for this beautiful town of Kailua.  I’m planning to be there when it opens and welcoming them here.  I hope you will too.
